As an online service, travel website is usually designed to provide comprehensive tourism consultation and services for public tourists. Travel website has increasingly become a significant means to help travel services gain more popularity, promote online travel products and enhance their competition in tourism industry. Meanwhile, the development of tourism website has offered new research subjects for the study of language and translation. From this perspective, the translation of tourism website not only possesses the general characteristics of that in ordinary tourism text, but also owns special features. In the practice, the author aims to produce an English version which can be used and culturally-accepted by the target readers. This translation report is a total introduction and reflection on the entire translation process based on the C-E translation project titled “Phuket Island’s 7-day Luxury Tour for Tourism Webpage of Xi’an Tianma International Travel Service”. In the report, the author summarized the characteristics of target text in the respects of words, sentences, rhetoric and writing style, then identified corresponding translation theories, appropriate strategies as well as specific methods. The report consists of three parts altogether: namely the pre-translation, translation implementation and post-translation. The author thoroughly analyzed the source text from the aspects of lexical characteristics, webpage layout and text content, and backed the whole report with Hans Vermeer’s Skopos theory and Peter Newmark’s communicative translation strategy. In the part of case study, the author has concluded three pairs of translation methods:“omission and addition”, “literal translation and free translation”, “division and combination of sentences”; as well as two techniques, namely “the application of descriptive wordings” and “the application of imperative sentence pattern” to solve the difficult problems during translation. Abundant specific examples can be found in this part. After translation, the author believed that a qualified translator should be equipped with professional qualities, effectively apply translation theories into real practice, patiently communicate with proofreader and entrusting party to guarantee the high quality of translated version, and put the clients’ interest above anything else. It is hoped that this report could provide some food for thoughts for those in the tourism translation.
