To pull on that thread a bit further, we found that generalized Xidiao originated from the folk songs, tunes of popular songs, arias of traditional operas, tunes of traditional operas, live performances of traditional operas in Shanxi province during the Ming and Qing dynasty. And then, re-created by literates according to the requirements of its melody and rhyme, the Xidiao become a kind of popular songs to express emotions and ambitions of them literates. Through such a way of exploration, we can finally figure out Xidiao′s name and truly definition.Then, we can do some deeply research in the main part of Xidiao with the help of the existing lyrics. After making use of classification, induction, calculation, comparison, analysis and some other research methods, we can make out the main characteristics of Xidiao in Qing dynasty from its contents and forms. Finally we understood what the Xidiao really is, and made a brief evaluation on its social value and music historical significance.
