In the end of the Qing Dynasty period(1876-1911), the socio-political and economic changed dramatically, the nation suffered an unprecedented crisis. To save the nation from peril, from the minster of state bureaucracy, down to the local gentry,all explore a new way actively. At the same time, there is a gap between Chinese traditional education and development of the times. Education reform is imperative.China has set up the modern education system after establishing“renyin-guimao” school system and repealing the imperial examinations. It makes educational content from inane into useful, from feudal into scientific. In this education reform movement, the gentry because of its unique advantages, and become the dominant force.By integrating Henan traditional gentry participate in the activities of the new education in various ways, to probe the relation between Henan traditional gentry and new education,and also reveal the role of the gentry in the development of modern Henan education process. At the same time, through some analysis of the historical limitations of tradition gentry in promoting modern education process, understanding Chinese social transformation over past century and the old and new cultural transformation in the course of the conflict and the lessons.
