With the rapid development of China’s aging process, the mental health problems of the empty nest elderly get more and more attention from the society. 18 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China also clearly put forward "to actively deal with an aging population, develop the aging services and industry".The purpose of research: The research object is the urban community empty-nesters living in the east lake area in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. The purpose of this research is assessing the urban community empty-nester’s mental health status,discussing the affecting factors, and exploring effective intervention means of the urban community empty-nester’s mental health.The method of research:The tool is a questionnaire about the elderly mental health,writing by the psychological research institute of the chinese academy of sciences. 420 empty nesters being investigated is living in the east lake area in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, then we have 20 empty-nesters conducted one-on-one interviews. After the mental health survey,we carried out psychological intervention for 100 empty-nesters whose psychological health level is relatively low for 8months.The conclusions of research:(1)The mental health of urban community empty-nesters is in an average level,but some empty-nesters need to pay more attention because of their low level of mental health.(2)The original professional type, the culture degree, the current marital status,the economic level, the frequency of participating community activities, the frequency of exercising, the satisfaction of medical conditions, living conditions,children’s lives have significant effects on empty nest elderly mental health.(3)the urban community empty-nesters mental health is influenced by physiological factors, psychological factors and social factors, including health of physiological factors, personality traits, cognitive factors, life satisfaction, coping styles of psychological factors, economic conditions and social support of socialfactors.(4)The comprehensive psychological intervention including mental health knowledge propaganda lectures, psychological salon, one-on-one psychological comfort, individual counseling is effective in promoting mental health. This comprehensive psychological intervention could be carried out in the community.
