Implicit negative verbs are special verbs with negative meaning and they can form redundant negation with negation marks. We investigated the syntactic and semantic features, motivation and mechanism of the implicit verbs, such as houhui(后悔regret),manyuan(埋怨complain),cha(差want),fouren(否认deny),fangzhi(防止prevent),bimian(避免avoid),jujue('绝reject). There are two requirements of redundant negation in implicit negative verbs. The syntactic premise of redundant negation in implicit negative verbs is that those verbs should be followed with predicative object to provide syntactic place for redundant negation markers. In addition, those implicit negative verbs should be in central syntactic position. The semantic premise is that predicative object is to describe action and not positive meaning. Redundant negation of implicit negative verbs is bound by syntactic and semantic constraints of those verbs, VP and redundant negation markers.Different implicit negative verbs have different syntactic and semantic features in redundant negation. Cha, houhui and jujue developed into structures jiu/zhi cha mei VP,hui bu gai and ju bu VP. Because of style applicability and language standardization, fangzhi, bimian, fouren and manyuan have a low frequency in redundant negation.Pragmatic principles, superposition and reinforcement in cognitive motivate redundant negation. Redundant negation of those verbs have some expressive effects, such as to reinforce subjectivity, to stress main information and to adjust the rhythm and so on. However, redundant negation form is marked compared to corresponding affirmative form which accounts for the most part under the influence of language of economic principles.
