The content of translation of this thesis is the book of Trust the Text. With the help of my supervisor, I selected this topic. The purpose of this translation is to help the Chinese students who major in linguistics and corpus linguistics, help them further their knowledge about corpus linguistics. I translated Chapter One and chapter two.Trust the Text was edited by Ronald Carter and first published in 2004 by Routledge. This book brings together some of the most significant papers written by John Sinclair in the past decade. The book consists of an introduction and three parts with about 90,000 words. I translated the first part of this book which is named “Foundation”. This part contains two important chapters. The first chapter mainly tells us the basic principle and theory of corpus linguistics which is the basis of this book and corpus linguistics. Based on the first chapter, the second chapter mainly discusses the exploration of language meaning in corpus linguistics. From the point of language meaning itself and content need to be expressed, it summarizes the achievement of corpus linguistics. According to this, we can find the relationship of them.Under the guidance of Nord’s functionalist translation theory and Peter Newmark’s communicative translation and semantic translation, I make an in-depth analysis of this book and confirm the direction of my translation. I adopted different measures to tackle the problems of translation, such as technical terms, specialized knowledge, and long and difficult sentences. After this translation, I obtain precious experience and summarize the room needs to be improved. Through this translation, I realize the importance of translation theory, professional knowledge and language competence.
