The Research On Daoguang Chorography Of Jiaozhou

Local Chronicles is the unique cultural heritage in our country and has the function of "administration and pragmatism". Jiaozhou is an ancient city with about four thousand years’history and has always attached importance to compiling local Chronicles in history. Daoguang chorography was the fourth time to compile the local Chronicles in history. It was a revised chorography led by Jiaozhou zhizhou, Zhang Tongsheng and Li Tu. The chorography has a total of eight books and forty volumes, with rich content, detailed data and complete styles. Therefore it is of high quality. This article is divided into four parts:The first part of the paper explores Jiaozhou’s geography situation and summarizes the development of compiling Jiaozhou Chorography through all previous dynasties. And this part aims to present a brief overview of the development of Daoguang chorography in order to master the general background of Daoguang chorography.The Second part of this paper is to study the situation of its compiling personnel, compiling styles and purpose and to compare Daoguang chorography with those in the past dynasties, which can highlight its unique value. Daoguang chorography shows a mix of inheritance and innovation on its compiling style. For example, the division of labor was very detailed from the point of personnel, and the new personnel division of duties appeared-interview and drawing, which hasn’t appeared in Jiaozhou’s former annals.The third part deals with the main content of Daoguang chorography of Jiaozhou. The research is conducted from two aspects- figures and tables and local Chronicles, selecting four parts about products, customs, business, folk customs and historic sites as research subject. It can help reflect the special function of Daoguang chorography on Jiaozhou’s economic development. Whether in agriculture, business, or tourism, its ups and downs all have reasons. Therefore it tells us that the development should be acompanied with the protection and inheritance in order to promote the sustainable development of social economy.The fourth part is on the basis of the third part, presenting the value and influence of Daoguang chorography. It analyzes its value among agriculture, commerce, folk customs and historic sites together with its historical value of other aspects of the chorography, which can contribute to make the ancient serve the modern.The final part is conclusion, summarizing the whole paper. Daoguang chorography has provided the rare reliable historical data for studying the ancient Jiaozhou from society, economy, culture, folklore, history, geography, etc. and offered valuable reference and guidance to the development of Jiaozhou’s present economic development. But in the process of using it, we should eliminate the false and retain the true and play its real value in politics, economy, culture and other aspects.
