What kind of people is fostered and how to foster them are the core issues of national education. The western advanced culture and system were introduced into Japan after Meiji Restoration, and then modern educational idea and system gradually came into being in Japan. Therefore the overall quality of national people has improved significantly and the national strength of Japan has been enhanced rapidly. Certainly it is on account of its abundant reserve of talents that Japan has achieved economic boom and national people’s rich life in only two decades even though in the state of devastation after World War Two. If we gaze at Japan’s education again after a century of Vicissitudes, it is necessary for china, which has the same cultural origin with Japan, to take example by Japan’s education at the present stage.Japan not only lays emphasis on the perfection of educational system, but also its educational idea keeps pace with the times. In addition to national uniform education and education emphasizing in freedom and individuality, the life-long education and universal education have also played important role in the development of country in a given historical context of that time. Hence, the writer takes the fifth chapter of Japanese Culture Encyclopedia of Life published by けいそうしょぼう in 1983 as the source text of translating practice. The source text is mainly about the development and changes of Japan’s educational situation, system and idea in modern times. This translating practice not only provides material support for a better educational reform in our country, but also improves the writer’s translating ability.Guided by Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory, the writer has paid attention to reorganization of sentence pattern, conversion of part of speech and the translation of new vocabulary and proper nouns to avoid translationese in translation practice. The different moods between Chinese and Japanese have been compared. Meanwhile, the translation techniques amplification and omission have also been adopted to achieve functional equivalence between Chinese and Japanese rather than only equivalence in lexical level so that the translation texts can be better understood by target readers.The author totally considers that translation is a significant practice. Translation is not only conducive to improve professional knowledge of the translators, but also to expand translators’ knowledge and exercis e their volitional quality.Furthermore, through the translation practice, the author thinks that the ultimate value of education is to foster talents with lofty beliefs and rich knowledge for the country, society and econo mic development. Therefore, to solve the problem of Chinese education, it should not be ignored to improv e the educational system and upgrade educational ideas with the times.
