Abstract/Summary:
This project report is based on the author’s consecutive interpreting at the opening and closing ceremony of the 2014 Sino-Austrian Summer School for Chinese Herbal Medicine. The 1st Sino-Austrian Winter School for Chinese Herbal Medicine was jointly sponsored and co-organized by Guangxi Botanical Garden of Medicinal Plants, Austrian Research Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine, Eurasia-Pacific Uninet and Research Federation of Chinese Herbal Medicine Products in 2011, which was recommended by Professor Xiao Peigen, Academician of Chinese Academy of Medical Science. It has also kicked off the cooperation and exchanges between Guangxi Botanical Garden of Medicinal Plants and Austria in the field of traditional medicine.The thesis mainly covers the author’s preparation for the task, case study and interpreting performance evaluation. In accordance with relevant interpreting and translating theories, cases like unexpected situation, misinterpreting, omission and supplement, disfluency as well as the role of interpreter will be analyzed. Besides, interpreting performance evaluation has also been conducted.The conclusion of this thesis is:first, pre-interpreting preparation, including on-the-spot preparation, is the key for the success of an interpreting task; second, listening comprehension is one of the most important abilities for an interpreter; third, good mentality is a significant factor for interpreters’ success; fourth, the environment of consecutive interpreting varies from occasions, an interpreter should learn about the environment in advance and make preparation.
