In China, Teaching Chinese as a foreign language began in 1950 s. Till now, it has gone through more than 60 years. During this period, the theory of teaching Chinese as a foreign language has made considerable progress, this career is flourishing. As a member of the family of Chinese vocabulary, Chinese idioms are an important content of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. With vivid expression, distinctive national characteristics and cultural features, Chinese idioms teaching has the dual connotation of both language teaching and culture teaching.Because of its historical and cultural connotation, Chinese idioms have always been difficult for teaching Chinese as a foreign language. In terms of structure and connotation, numerical idioms are easier to be understood. Numerical idioms can be a breakthrough of idioms teaching, it enables the idioms teaching develop from easy to difficult. This paper is serve for teaching Chinese idioms, it also study the errors made by foreign language learners during the study of numerical idioms and summarize the corresponding teaching strategies.This paper can be divided into four parts. The first part is introduction, including the research background and significance of selected topic, definition of related concepts, research status, objects and methods. Based on the questionnaire data statistics, the second part is mainly about the analysis on each question. According to the questionnaire and daily class observation, in the third part, main types of errors made by oversea students in using numerical idioms are summarized, and the causes of errors are analyzed. Aiming at the types and causes of errors made by oversea students, in the fourth part appropriate suggestions are put forward.
