Katy Regan, used to edit articles for 19 magazines, is an editor for a fashion magazine Marie Clair. The One before the One, one of her three novels, published by her in 2004, has aroused a great impression among readers. With humorous language style, vivid description of human characters by language and psychology, this novel has played a significant meaning for young readers. Introducing this novel to Chinese readers is one of the reasons the translator tries to translate it. The other reason is that, the translator could apply the translation theory into translation skills and practice by translation process.After translation theory studying and translation practise process, the translator finishes this report. The thesis focuses on the translation theory and instructs the novel translation guided by different translation theory, providing editable practical reference for the translation of same type by implementing specific translation example as a conclusion. Meanwhile, the report also includes the translator’s reflection of the translation theory.The report includes five parts.In introduction, the translator introduces the author and relevant background information of this novel, and the significance for translation.The first chapter is task description. It includes a brief background for translation task, the arrangement for translation process and task essence.The second chapter is process description. It includes three steps in translation process: pre-translation preparation, implementation if the translation, finalization. In this chapter, the translator clarifies the focused point and implementation result of each step.The third chapter is case analysis. It refers to the practical translation analysis of words and sentences according to context and politeness principle. It also includes the application of translation theory into the translation practice.The last chapter is conclusion. The translator reflects the whole translation process and accumulated experience during the translation process.
