Ming and qing dynasty was the golden age of Chinese ancient vernacular Chinese novels, in the meantime, vernacular novel’s style and content were becoming mature, and it’s forms of literature is also gradually diversification, "Applause for Otherworldly" was written between late Ming dynasty’s and between Ming dynasty and early Qing’s simulating colloquial short stories.In terms of form, it is divided into four sets:“wind”, “flowers”, “snow”, “moon” and ten to one set, each episode tells a complete story;In terms of content point, the book of the “wind” and “snow “sets, mainly depict the ways of the world, “flowers” and “moon”sets mainly describing the wit and beauties style novels.Whether in the form or content, the “Applause for Otherworldly” has transitional significance which forms a connect with the foregoing and carry forward to a new paragraph, at the same time, it’s panoramic description profoundly revealed the all sorts of darkness in late Ming dynasty society, and trying to get rid of the consistent “admonishment”habit in "three words", "two pat".Unfortunately, it didn’t get the attention and evaluation that it deserves since the advent of the this novel.This article is divided into four parts to study the “Applause for Otherworldly”: the first part, it summarised the author of this book,the completion of the book and the version of the situation,in the meantime,also made a pectination of the research of predecessors on the “Applause for Otherworldly”.The second part, to summarize the content of “wind”, “flowers”, “snow”, “moon” four sets,and analysis the artistic features of the unique content in each episode’s.The third part from the two aspects of form and essence to analysis this book’s inheritance and innovation of Chinese ancient novels on the various structure, content and purpose, and its contained abundant meaning.The fourth part simplely introduced the Chinese simulating colloquial short novel development process, and evaluated the book “Applause for Otherworldly”status and impact in the history of the Chinese simulating colloquial short stories.
