Long and splendid Chinese history has nurtured the unique oriental art of painting. As an original form of art, the Chinese painting is shining in the art galleries of the world. Shi Tao is a master in the Chinese painting with his whole life full of ups and downs. But the hardship didn’t stop him pursuing the art of painting and even cultivated his sense of art. His unique unrestrained charm is well reflected in his idea of painting, which gives the full play to his talent in painting even enables him to accomplish the unprecedented painting theory tome, Discourse on Painting. Containing profound painting theories, the work has created a new prospect of Chinese traditional painting theories and conveyed the aesthetic ideology of painting. "One Stroke" theory proposed by Discourse on Painting is a new topic of art. As the core theoretical statement of the work, "One Stroke" Theory is also his proposition of art theory that runs through the work.The thesis first introduces the life of Shi Tao, his painting ideas and art accomplishments.
