From The Representative Cognition To The Enactive Cognition

This paper investigates the enactive cognition paradigm’s Thoughts-origin,basic connotation and specific approaches,gives a restricted view of specific theoretical results,evaluates its right and wrong merit. There is an important theoretical and practical significance for the study which clarify and grasp the study object of the Psychology timely and accurately and also promote the current psychology research.The enactive cognition paradigm’s Philosophical background include Transcendental philosophy,positivism,phenomenology,hermeneutics,existentialism,Orient al philosophy;Scientific background include Biology and neuroscience, artificial intelligence, computer science and mathematics,system science;Psychology pioneers include Dewey,James, Brentano and Piaget,Goldstein, Vygotsky etc. The basic connotation can be summarized into five aspects:(1) From the disembodied cognition to the embodied cognition, embedded cognition;(2)From the machine to the reality of the people;(3) From the natural world to the everyday life;(4) From the representative cognition to the enactive cognition;(5) From the calculation of the information to the dynamic system.At the same time, the paradigm has formed five kinds of typical specific approaches:Varela’s neurophenomenology approach,Thompson’s dynamic thesis approach, Noe’s sensorimotor Contingenciment approach,Hutto’s narrative approach, De Jaeger’s socialization approach. Varela’s and Noe’s approaches opened up the two ways of enactive cognitive paradigm that enable the other approaches to expand them. This paper also evaluates the contribution and limitation of the paradigm respectively through the ways include critique of the representative cognitive paradigm and the construction of thetheory of Psychology.We also suggest it should quicken the complete psychology integration-led theoretical system of psychology construction pace.
