The three years’ exercises and practice of watercolor landscape paintings makes me deeply understand the vital role framing and composition plays for the success of pictures.In the process of sketching and painting creation the objective images, which is continuous, are always of unlimited extension without boundaries, making us really confused.Artists need to extract the most essential elements from so many details and then arrange them in an ingenious way, forming pictures with senses of form, which is the entire contents of the framing and composition.Therefore, framing and composition is not to reproduce the objective object mechanically but to give full play to one’s own initiative and extract and organize the factors of beauty that are overshadowed by the appearance of images.Framing is to extract and summarize the form factors such as points, lines, planes, shapes and bodies, which form pictures. And composition is a process during which the artists, in order to achieve the expressing intents, arrange the form factors organically, constituting new visions of the world.The relationship between framing and composition is not simply in a certain sequence. For example, to extract content first and then arrange the pictures. The proper way is to extract content with the consciousness of composition. That is to say it is a better way to perfectly balance the subject matters and the forms of composition and form pictures with a form of beauty, which can show the author’s thoughts and feelings, and reflect the works.With the I since the childhood living environment as material, I created Summer Day and wanted to explore and grasp framing and composition in this way. I made many efforts like extracting and summarizing the picture contents and forms and in the meantime emphasizing the impacts the forms may have on the contents to produce a picture of form beauty in order to reflect my intentions and the picture’s artistic conception.
