Mingist, Mohist, Chuang-tzu and Xunzi have discussed what is the Ming, what is Shi, what is the relationship between Ming and Shi.The process accumulated of the earliest knowledge of logic,epistemology and science in the history of China.The book Mojing expressed the Mohist’s Ming-Shi thoughts.The meaning of Ming in the Mojing is rich.Firstly,it means to name as a verb and fame, name, address and saying as a noun. The Ming is equivalent to the concept from a logical, and according to the size of the extension of the concept, Mojing divided Ming into three categories-up, class and private. In addition, Mohist special contribution for the Mingism lies in pointing two concepts and classifications--the knowledge of Ming and the knowledge of Shi by the epistemology. The knowledge of Ming is the conceptual knowledge, the knowledge of Shi is empirical knowledge. This is one of meanings of Ming and Shi in the Mojing.The meaning of Shi is also very rich.In addition to the meaning of the fruit, the real thing, the actual situation and the real action, the Shi also said the perceptual characteristics of the real thing or perceptual object. Many scholars see the Shi among the’Shi is flourishing’(Mojing) as the ’substantial’, ’nature’ and other abstract concepts.In fact, according to the text and Mohist epistemology, the Shi can not have this meaning. In other words,it means ’Ju, Ni Shi(To give is to describe) ’(Mojing). Correspondingly, the principle of Zhengming in the Mojing is ’Yi Ming Ju Shi (to call an object by name)’ (Mojing).The biggest success of the Mojing is progress on epistemology. The Bian(debate) in the Mojing is not only a debate,but also is epistemology. On the criterion of truth, Mojing’s the point of view is that ’to know or not to know.it depends on Ming and Qu.’(Mojing)Ming and Qu is the criterion of truth or the standards of knowledge to distinguish different types of one in the Mojing.Ming can only test the knowledge of concept, and Qu can test empirical knowledge.Mozi’s the criterion about ’know or do not know’ is ’to depend on Qu other than Ming’ (the GuiYi of Mozi).It means that Qu is the criterion of truth that is emphasized by Mohist.Mohist’s point of view that see Qu as the criterion of truth is similar to Marxism and Positivism.
