| This book Mozi is written by Modi who is a great Chinese thinker and statesman in ancient time. Hanshuyiwenzhi has recorded this book, but there are only 53 chapters in it now. From chapter 40 to chapter 43 are jingshang, jingxia, Jingshuoshang, jingshuoxia which are a valuable book on philosophy, natural science and social science in Chinese antiquity. It has begun to be called Mojing since Lusheng .The logic in Mojing involves many aspects of logical science. This section discussed the essential category of logical deduction the analysis of judgment and every aspect of inference. The logical theory is not only the summary of logical thought about the developed technology and science in ancient time but also the basis of theory on knowledge and methodology. There are plentiful content of mat hematic in Mojing. Liangqichao had even noticed Mohist' s geometry and said before Euclid, Mojing has discussedgeometry ......and invented many theorems. Today we can see that the sprout ofinfinite and assemble theory in Mojing and its achievement had high level at that time. The accurate theory of mathematics is based on solid logic in Mojing. The essential mathematical concepts the judgment, inference and thinking process of logical theory which Mohist has studied can be seen in the mathematical articles in Mojing. Simple and clear judgments bright and accurate analogy-, flexible application of induction and deduction embody Mohist' s solidly logical foundation. Mohist also used these theories in constructing mat hematicsystem. The close thought of mathematics-logic affects many mathematicians' mode of thinking during the later time. The author consulted many literatures before he studied mathematical content in Mojing. The author thinks that there are internal relationship between mathematics and logics; The scholars of liberal arts and science have studied the mathematics and logics respectively in Mojing for a long time, but few have related the two together. There is defect in methodology and this affects the comprehension and depth of the study. Thus the author thinks that it is necessary to analyze the logical basis of mathematics in Mojing. So it is easy to learn logic from mathematic in Mojing and easy to learn mathematics from logic. The purpose conforms to reality when the author first studies Mojing, and this is the fundament of setting forth the views in this book and object which the author tries her best to turn into reality. |
