This practice report is focused on the translation of articles in the 2014 Economist from January to June. Due to its humor and authenticity, the Economist is renowned around the world. However, in the process of translation, there are a lot of translation difficulties appeared in terms, titles and long sentences and so on.The report is guided by Nida’s “Functional Equivalence” and Tytler’s “Three Principles of Translation”. On the basis of that, the writing style features and linguistic features of the Economist are analyzed respectively from words, titles, and long sentences with combining instances. Strategies like diction, addition, omission, conversion, inversion and division are used in the the translation. In particular, the translator should take into account the context of the sources, endeavor to make the style of the target text coincide with that of the source text in accordance with the expressions of target languages.The purpose of this project is to provide a platform for translators to learn from each other; to help translators to improve translating skills; to fulfill other kinds of knowledge for a translator; to choose better translation among all the translation version; to become a window for knowing and learning from foreign economy.Through the practice of translation, the translator not only enriches the knowledge of economics, but also improves the translation level. The most important is to be able to learn and cooperate with the translation team of the Economist in China. Meanwhile, when the translator accumulates the experience, the weak language ability and indistinct thinking are exposed, but the translator will try to keep learning and improving.
