Fruit contains wealthy meanings of human spirit and culture, thus becomes one of artists ’ favorite themes. Throughout the ages, there have been numerous works on the theme of fruit, such as lin Chun’s Ripe Fruit Attracts Birds, Zhao Ji ’ s Loquat and Birds in the Mountain, Xu Wei’s Black Grapes in the South Song Dynasty as well as contemporary,Su Baijun’s Carambola,Fang Chuxiong’s Treasures in the Rainforest, etc. Some of these works are delicate with small frames containing rich contents. Some are frank with seemingly simple contents hiding profound meanings behind. Choosing fruit as my creative theme is not only a reflection of my aesthetic feelings but also an intention to express my wishes and aspirations using the spirit and connotation of fruit. What I need to explore in the progress of creation is how to reflect my own personality with the same theme. I take Ficus ’ fruit as the expression object. The inspiration comes from my sketching in Menglun Botanical Garden in Xishuangbanna one time. I came across one robust and big Ficus with abundant fruits. At the sudden moment, the flourishing scene shocked me and aroused strong resonance. The abundant fruits on the branches are well-proportioned, distributed and overlapped with each other. They seemed to compose the chapter of life. The effect of form seemed to be the fine craftsmanship in nature. Facing them, I was soeager to inject the love for nature and life into the painting. When creating “ Drooping Golden and Plump Fruits ”, I still adopted the traditional fine brushwork light painting techniques to express the connotations and applied the method of realistic painting to show the item’s appearance. Through exquisite outlining, I expressed the structure and texture. By employing the traditional layered rendering technique, I tried to make the colors light but not thin, smooth and transparent. In terms of the color tone, I abandoned the traditional “ type-based coloring ” and did not express the yellowish green specific to Ficus ’fruit. Instead, I expressed it through my subjective treatment. The refinement of the fruit, relatively unrestricted branches, coupled with pure background color as well as romantic and simple tones highlight the poetic and sentimental realm. How to demonstrate my own personality is what I need to explore into in the creating process. Taking my creation Golden Sweet for instance, this article explains my exploration in this process of creating from four parts including introduction, significance, process and understanding of the creation.
