A Translation Report Of Chapter 2 Of Perspectives On American Law

This translation report is based on the translation practice of American Public Interest Law, Chapter 2 of Perspectives on American Law. This book is an academic writing about American legal system written by American scholars of law, which is specialized for Chinese readers, and Chapter 2 of this book introduces Public Interest Law in America. After describing the translation strategies and translation process, and analyzing the source language text, the report sums up the four typical problems in English-Chinese translation of legal academic writings, namely, the translation of legal terms, the translation of long sentences, ways to deal with cultural differences and the translation of headings and subheadings. Under the guidance of Hans J. Vermeer’s Skopos Theory, this translation report puts forward corresponding solutions to the typical problems, which, hopefully, will provide a reference for other translators who are engaged in English-Chinese translation of legal Academic writings.
