The Study Of Gold Frontlet

Gold frontlet is so exceptive that academia has been attached importance to it during these years, which is because gold frontlet being found in the history document is of much concern to the ceremony institution. We found the physical gold frontlet belonging to the tombs of The Two Jins and Sixteen Kingdoms Period, as well as the pictorial gold frontlet on the mural paintings. As being a sort of ornament decorated on the crest for the Cavalier Attendant-in-ordinary (散骑常侍) and Court of Palace Attendant (侍中), Gold frontlet is used during life and after death, for the purpose of demonstrating the users’ status. Therefore, gold frontlet is not only a simple decoration, but a significant component part of the ceremony institution.In terms of the study of gold frontlet, there are only a few academic dissertations and researches elaborate. The treatises did research into certain respects such as users of gold frontlet, and headstream of gold frontlet. The scholars did not focus on the unearthed gold frontlet a lot, which contains plentiful information on the range of using, status of users, ways of wearing and gradual process of development. In addition, the history document and physical material about gold frontlet are dispersive, some reports about the newly unearthed gold frontlets have not been published, scholars’ opinions are widely divided. Thus, this paper organizes all the information about fold frontlet, as far as completely presenting gold frontlet. Based on the unearthed gold frontlet, this paper makes deep analysis of the users, from their personal status to their family relationship. Also, this paper makes deep comparison on the structure of unearthed gold frontlets, trying to conclude circumstances and development of it.This paper contains four following parts:The preface makes definition of gold frontlet, summarizing the condition of academic study of gold frontlet in the past, pointing out the inadequacy of the existing studies, introducing the meaning of this article.The first chapter summarizes the statements of gold frontlet in the history document, illustrating the political significance, kind of symbol ornaments wearing by the Cavalier Attendant-in-ordinary (散骑常侍) and Court of Palace Attendant (侍中), indicates that gold frontlet is one part of the ceremony institution. And analyze the different using condition during different periods of history.The second chapter introduces the general situation about the tombs which contains gold frontlet, combining the political status of the tomb owners, and analyzes the structure of gold frontlet, in order to dig out the political and cultural background.The third chapter is based on the second one, combining the information of history document and unearthed gold frontlet, to find out the process of development.
