Nowadays, with the rapid development of science and technology, China has played an important role all over the world, it turns out that the status of Chinese language also improves as time goes by. More and more people are getting involved in the group of Chinese language learning. Since 1970, Canada has established a good relationship with China, and the cooperation mainly focuses on education, culture etc. As a huge country of immigrants, Canada owns a large number of ethnic Chinese people and overseas Chinese. And the population of Chinese people and overseas Chinese occupies one thirties of the total population of Canada. Most of them come from China mainland, Taiwan and Honking, and minority of them is from East Asia. Most of these immigrants locate in Ontario and British Columbia. The diversification of the immigrants defines the specialty of the Chinese language teaching in Canada.Toronto is the provincial capital of Ontario and also the biggest city in Canada, it owns 10% ethnic Chinese among the total population, especially in the middle part of Toronto, the ethnic Chinese takes a 60% rate, automatically it becomes the main force of the Chinese language learning.The purpose of the research is making more and more people get to know the general situation of the Chinese teaching in Toronto and surrounding areas, and meanwhile making more people get to know the Chinese learning situation of the Chinese emigrants. When carrying on the research, the writer found that although the Chinese teaching is improving gradually, some problems still exist, most of the problems focus on the compiling of the text book、the ranks of the teachers、teaching methods and some related parts.That is why except the research, the writer also analysis some practical solutions according to the problems mentioned above. The analysis can make the Canadian Chinese teaching situation step into a more accurate and purposive phase with more scientific and reasonable element.This research mostly centers on the educational situation of Chinese in Toronto and surrounding areas. The writer chose 4 Chinese language schools and other 2 Confucius Institutes as the research objects and carried on careful investigations based on the teaching history、 enrollment scale、the students’ cultural background、the teachers’ information、the classroom teaching、the selection of subject matter etc.
