A Study Of Jiangxi Yichun Sanxing Drum

Wind and percussion music is one of the traditional music of China. It is displayed by wind and percussion instruments, called in folk gong and drum and advocate music. Yichun Sanxing Drum is a wind and percussion musical genre, widely used in Yichun etiquette and custom ceremony. Originated in the Ming Dynasty, it has a history of 200 years by now. It is a kind of authentic folk instrumental music form and the name, Sanxing Drum, originated from the fact that one person plays three drums simultaneously, symbolizing Fukurokuju Samsung shining. The main performance occasions of Sanxing Drum is mainly in rural areas of various ceremonies. As time evolves, Sanxing Drum is also in the continuous development of fusion with other outstanding folk music forms. In recent years, the research on folk music continues to heat up, the emphasis on China’s intangible cultural heritage has enhanced, and Yichun Sanxing Drum gets highly valued. Yichun Sanxing Drum also obtained a higher degree of attention. With the help of Yuanzhou district government and other departments, files of Yichun Sanxing Drum are collected and sorted. This paper chooses Sanxing Drum in Hongtang Town, Cedar Township, and Zhang Jia Shan community of Yuanzhou District as the subjects of research. And Sanxing Drum’s origin and development, the form of drum, musical form of the types of music and others are systematically and comprehensively discussed.This paper was divided into six parts to discuss the Sanxing Drum. The introduction mainly focused on research purpose, significance, object, research methods and other basic overview of Yichun Sanxing Drum, and pointed out the current problems of study of Sanxing Drum. The Second part gave a brief introduction to Yichun Sanxing Drum including the geographical and cultural environment, and the historical origin of Sanxing Drum. The third part was a systematic introduction of Yichun Sanxing Drum material constitutes, mainly the Sanxing Drum material composition of musical instruments, some orchestras and players and other aspects. This part also introduced Yichun Sanxing Drum music’s applications, briefly divided into the use in red happy events and white happy events(funerals). A more detailed study, the forth part of this paper is the Yichun Sanxing Drum music’s main body shape. The author analyzed some few extant and highly frequently used music, trying to find out the commonness of Yichun Sanxing Drum music. In the fifth part, the author took a more detailed analysis of the value of the Sanxing Drum, including the economic value, historical value, cultural and spiritual value and educational value. In the last part, the author discussed the heritage and the development of Yichun Sanxing Drum, trying to figure out some problems that exists in the protection and smriti of Yichun Sanxing Drum, based on which some suggestions were put forward.
