| Novel is a part of literature. Its translation has an important impact on literature works’ entering exotic culture. The translation of novel also must adjust to the general principles of translation, such as faithfulness, expressiveness, elegance and so on. Dialogues of characters, as an important part of novels, are arranged deliberately by authors to express characters’psychological intention, shape characters’personality, draw behaviors and carry out the plot. The quality of the dialogue translation would directly influence the whole translation of novels. It should follow two criteria:oralization and individuation. And factors influencing dialogues’translation in novels can be divided into two categories, lingual and non-lingual, including the mood and status of characters, the relationship between interlocutors, the formality degree of dialogue occasion, voice, etc.. Thus, it is of important significance to explore the factors influencing the translation of dialogues in novels.This paper is a report on a translation task. The source text is Chapterl to Chapterl5 of Pride and Prejudice, the material of which is from daily life, vividly revealing the town life in England and the ways of the world under the state of conservatism and blocking from the end of the 18th century to the beginning of the 19th century. From the aspects of lingual and non-lingual, the report analyzes factors influencing the translation of dialogues in novels in the process of Chinese translation, and proposes the coping strategies, trying to avoid Chinese translation problems caused by these factors, and ensure to transmit the content of the source text faithfully.This report is divided into five parts. Chapter One is the introduction of the translating task, including the background, the goal, the significance and the structure of the report. Chapter Two is a description of the translating process, involving the preparatory phase, the translating phase and the revising phase. Chapter Three and Chapter Four respectively analyze lingual and non-lingual factors influencing the translation of dialogues in novels, and also propose their coping strategies. Chapter Five is a conclusion, which summarizes the translation practice. |
