| Charles Camille Saint-saens (1835.10.9-1921.12.16), born in Paris, France, is known as a famous french pianist, pipe-organist, and music composer, educator and critic in the later period of Romanticism in the late 19th century. As one of the excellent representatives of French music, he has major influences on the renaissance and development of French instrumental music in the history of worldwide music.Saint-saens has the gift of playing and composing the music, who composed more than 170 pieces of music throughout his whole life. His numerous works almost cover all kinds of musical genres and forms. One of his best works is g minor second piano concerto which thoroughly displays the characteristics of his works, including beautiful melody, elegant chords, complete structures, gorgeous orchestral instruments, plentiful colors, ease to approach, etc. This work typically represents the composing style of piano music of Saint-saens, which has been regarded as one of the monument in the history of music.This paper investigates the first episode of g minor second piano concerto by considering the original times and background when the episode was composed. It analyzed the composing motivation of Saint-saens, and systematically examines and generalizes his composing devices, thoughts and skills from the perspectives of his musical genres, chords, melody, rhythms and so on. It also summarizes reflections of the writer on the connotation and features of this work through the analysis and investigation. The discussion in this paper is expected to provide references and inspiration for pianists or researchers of works of Saint-saens. |
