A Report On The Translation Of Performance Standards On Environment And Social Sustainability

In recent years, the high frequency and intensity of environment damage remain severe around the world. Although China’s study of ecological safety and sustainable development has a history of more than ten years, the translation condition of environment protection literature still has much room for improvement. The object of this thesis is the Performance Standards on Environment and Social Sustainability formulated by the International Finance Corporation aiming at environment protection.The present report focuses on the E-C translation process of the project. The word number of the original text sums to 25,704. Chapters 6, 7and 8 which sum to 13,483 word are the author’s scope of responsibility.A detailed description and case analysis of the localized translation of this project has been made with the methods of analysis and exemplification with the application of Eugene Nida’s Dynamic Equivalence Theory.The paper is composed of four parts. In Chapter 1, the paper briefly introduces the project, the translation procedures and the necessary preparations. Chapter 2 describes how the style of the target texts is determined based on the content and the target customers. Chapter 3 is the case analysis for the project, which mainly discuss the translation difficulties and solutions. Chapter 4 discusses the major problems and disadvantages.The paper intends to show that in a large localized translation project, the translators should not only fully comprehend the project and employ proper translation strategies and techniques according to the contents, but also teamwork with others. The author hopes this paper can be helpful in the studies of large project operation in localization service industry and the assurance of the translation quality.
