On Angela Mcrobbie’s “Female Subculture Thought”

Subculture is the one of the main object of studies of the Bermingham school, but the school has been biased towards the study of male subculture, and ignored the attention to female subculture. Mc Robbie’s female subculture is thought to make up for the part in female studies which is ignored by Bermingham school. Mike Robbie thinks, in the peripheral part of subcultures dominated by male, by the way of showing the group speciality, the female has established a approach of culture compensation, which is different from the male. This approach has been evolved from "Teddy girl" to "Teeny bopper", and they are mainly retained in the household, schools and clubs. Mc Robbie’s female subculture reveals the problems of female in real life, such as the patriarchal order suppresses women, the ideology controls women’s leisure time, and the gender discrimination in postmodern society. To this, Mc Robbie hopes that, the feminists should take the way of cultural intervention to weaken the control of the ideology on women, they should reform the feminist theory by deconstructive thought, at the same time, she hopes female to promote the level of knowledge Consciously, and develop the culture of ability of independence. However, in Mc Robbie’s opinion, female subculture has only "a moment of brilliant", its forms of expression will be eventually included in the normal family life which is controlled by the heterosexual norms.
