This is a report based on the translation of Winter’s King—a science fiction written by an American writer Ursula K. Le Guin. The writer describes a planet called Winter in Gethen, where all inhabitants are androgynes. The king Argaven has been kidnapped and her mind apparently changed. She decides to abdicate for sake of her son Emran, who is still an infant child. Some aliens help her go to another planet through a time machine. On this new planet, she receives treatment under the aid of some mind experts. After she is cured, she learns that things don’t go smoothly as she wish in the planet Winter, and then she returns her own planet, only to find that her child Erman is old enough and has become a tyrant. However, the public supports her to restore, which triggers off Erman’s suicide. This novel is one of short stories The Wind’s Twelve Quarters. Before the translator translates this novel, a great deal preparation should be made to get better understanding of the writer Ursula K. Le Guin and her writing style. What is more, it is necessary for the translator to collect related information and translation tools. In the whole translation process, every step of translation requires the translator be more conscientious. It is beneficial for the translator to make adequate preparations before the translation, look up the resources available as many as possible during the translation and revise and proofread repeatedly after the translation. This report aims to present the translation process, analyze the feature of the source text and provide translation methods from the perspective of environmental description, action description and psychological description on the translation of the science fiction. It draws a conclusion that translators should pay more attention to the stylistic features of original text, not just on the text itself. As science fiction is different from other literature genres, the character of science fiction--scientificity, interestingness, popularity and literature--should be also considered in the process of translation. Therefore, different translation methods have been applied to translate this novel to represent the wonderful story line according to its context, content and culture and other facts. Adhering to the faithfulness to the spirit of the original text, the author of this report translates the meaning of the text as accurately as possible, then takes the stylistic features of science fiction into consideration and perfects the translation with translation methods.
