This translation practice consists of two stages: the first is translation and the second is reporting. In this practice, the author chose to translate Chinese local legislations regarding grass-root democracy system and analyze the features of this category of texts in terms of lexicon, sentence, the entire text and style, as well as the difficulties in translation caused by such features and corresponding solutions in an attempt not only to help further study and personal practice but to promote foreigners’ understanding of China’s democratic systems through the translations. The two translation orientations of formal equivalence and dynamic equivalence and their relevant principles as mentioned in Nida’s work are applied as the principles for analyzing and supporting the translation. In consideration of the nature of the source texts as local legislative texts and the purposes of this practice, formal equivalence which is basically source-oriented is deemed as the general orientation of the translation while dynamic equivalence is used as a supplementation. In general, the translation at the level of lexicon, and text and style are mostly F-E translation; while for the translation puzzles at syntactic level, the solution is often D-E translation. Besides, there are some defects in this study, including the limitation of the object of this study and the difficulties in categorizing some translation puzzles and thus the failure in including them within the discussion.
