Based on the translation of Chapter 17 (Music 1933-1936) of The life of Ezra Pound written by Noel Stock, a best friend of Ezra Pound, this report proves that the three rules of Skopos Theory is instructive in the translation of biography. As an indispensable part of literature, biography is a combination of history and literature. Therefore, it is quite important for the translator to balance historicity and literariness.Through detailed translating case analyses of Music 1933-1936, this report analyzes historicity and literariness of biography from the aspects of skopos rule, fidelity rule and coherence rule and tries to explore the translation strategies and methods in the translation process of biography work in accordance with Skopos Theory.This report contains four chapters. Chapter one introduces the source, contents, features and requirements of the translating task and the structure of this report. Chapter two describes the translation process of this task, including the preparation before translation, difficulties appeared in the translation process and revision after translation. Chapter three introduces three rules of Skopos Theory and their applications by analyzing concrete translation cases and tries to conclude some useful translation strategies in biography translation process. Chapter four summarizes the whole translation and points out the limitations of this report. |
