In recent years, with the increasingly closer tie between China and the rest of the world, the demand for interpretation on various occasions is on constant rise, and interpreters are playing a more significant role. As a major form of interpreting, consecutive interpretation is widely used in banquets, diplomatic meetings, bilateral negotiations, interviews, small seminars and so on, and brings convenience for communications between people speaking different languages. Thus, it is of great importance to study the influencing factors in the process of consecutive interpreting and coping strategies for improving the interpretation quality.Basing on his own field practice, the author analyzes the text, the speaker, the audience and his performance as a student-interpreter during the interpretation process, and summarizes the influencing factors in the listening and recording phase and target language output phase. The factors in the listening and recording phase include:the text, the length of each paragraph, the speaker, the environment and the relevant knowledge, memory method, effort distribution and mental status of the interpreter; and the factors in the target language output phase include:the expression ability, note-reading, coping skills for on-site problems, public speaking skills and mental pressure of the interpreter. Meanwhile, the author puts forward advices to improve the CI performance from the aspects of pre-conference preparations and mid-conference coping strategies.This report aims to identify the problems the author faced in the process, seek directions for improvement and provide practical advice to consecutive interpretation learners.
