| Since the reform and opening up, China has continually enhanced its comprehensive national strength and promoted its international status with the efforts made by everyone. Undoubtedly, China is peaceful rising. However, different people hold different views about China’s peaceful rise, which makes an influence on China’s peaceful development and diplomacy. This is the background of translation for China’s international communication. What’s more, it brings new challenges, opportunities and requirements for international publicity translation. Translation for China’s international communication should pay attention to both linguistic and cultural factors.American translation theorist Andre Lefevere put forward "Translation is a rewriting of an original text." and pointed out that translation was influenced by a certain ideology, a poetics and patronage. Rewriting theory makes translation study pay more attention to cultural factors, which meets the need of international publicity translation. And that is to say, rewriting theory has a certain explanatory power on international publicity translation, never mind the translation of political texts for international publicity translation. This thesis tries to analyze the book Xi Jinping:The Governance of China from four aspects of ideology, poetics, patronage and translator under the background of China’s peaceful rise with an aim to reveal the manipulation in the process of translation.Through a large analysis of translation examples from the book, the thesis finds out that:under the background of China’s peaceful rise,1) ideology has an indelible influence on translation for China’s global communication, which is realized through the choices of text, the aims of translation and the translation strategies.2) the translations of books prefer to maintain the cultural information of texts by making notes and produce the "China" English without violating the language rules of both countries.3) translators have more rights to adopt various translation strategies in accordance to different contexts to produce more readable texts.4) the real patronage of publicity translation is the government. |
