Language develops and evolves with the improvement and different requirements of time. Language teaching is from initial grammar teaching to reading and discourse analysis. Our Ministry of Education in 2007 published the College English Curriculum Requirements aiming at cultivating students’ comprehensive ability. To meet the demands of society for application-oriented talents, we attempt to pass on the academic knowledge to students through the language instruction.TBI integrates a specific academic knowledge with the language learning. Language teaching is not just to teach the language knowledge, but knowledge as a media and the target language will be mastered through academic knowledge learning. The teaching content is relative to the students’major, therefore, the new teaching method can improve the students’ learning interest, increase the participation of class, and enhance the whole language level and comprehensive language proficiency.The research puts TBI into the college English teaching. The topics are set around the theme about the major. Students’ tasks are from the topics. They are asked to look into materials, discuss in classroom and exchange the information and ideas. At last, the ability of reorganizing and using materials is gotten. During the process, students can practice their listening, speaking, reading and writing. It conforms to the notion that language is learned by using. Two questions will be researched in the thesis.1) To find out whether the TBI is able to improve learners’ study effect in a better way, comparing with the traditional instructing methods.2) Another one is to offer more evidence to prove that the TBI can attract learners’ interest in English study and better their attitude, and motivation toward English study. The research subject is the students whose major is marketing enrolled in 2013 in Heilongjiang University of Science and Technology. The researcher gets the results which are the students from experimental class have the higher learning scores, interests, attitude than the regular class through the proficiency tests, questionnaire and face-to-face interview. The research can get the result that TBI is better the traditional teaching method. About the limitations in the research, the suggestion and measures to improve are given.
