With the rapid development of globalization and the rise of China, translation playsa vital role in the global arena of politics, economy and culture. Meanwhile, asscience and technology keep progressing, the mode of translation has also changed,which results in the emergence of many translation techniques. Among thesetranslation techniques, Computer Aided Translation (CAT) is the most prominent andhas brought about the greatest change to the productivity of translating process. Withthis vision, the MTI program at my university established the course of ComputerAided Translation (CAT) as a core course. Teaching practice here proved that it is animportant bridge between classroom learning and the translating industry. In addition,the CAT can help us to ensure the accuracy of the content, and consistency of theterms in some professional fields, such as science, technology, engineering, financeand so on. As English translator, to study CAT well is combining the professionalknowledge closely with the computer technology to obtain high quality and highefficiency translation.This report is based on the author‘s translation project of New York City (LonelyPlanet), a detailed tourism guidebook. The report is divided into four parts, whichmainly explains the translation project, the importance of termbase(s), difficulties theauthor encountered in the text translation, and the process of solving the problems.The termbase is the core of this report. The importance of termbase cannot be ignoredduring the process of translation. As for the definition and development of termbase,the identification and the extraction of terms, term translation and confirm and updateand maintain the termbase, the author will discuss in the following text.Under this translation project, a group of13students are appointed as translators.Xu Bin is in charge of the management of the translation project. Under the guidanceof Supervisor Xu, all translators chose a team leader, who was in charge of the wholeproject. Our team leader is responsible for building the project, putting the source textin the Google Automatic Translation to be pre-translated and distributing the projectto each translator. According to the requirements of team leader, translators selectedthe terms, translating terms and updating terms during the process of translation.Inorder to ensure the efficiency and quality of the translation project, CAT technique hasbeen applied in this translation project, which have achieved good results and savedthe translator‘s time and energy Depending on the advantage of fast search and frequent updating, termbase has been applied widely in the collaborative translationproject. How to build, use and update the termbase scientifically plays an importantrole in the translation practice.
