A Project Report On Interpreting For The Pilot Program Of TPP’s Hospital Information System Software

This report is based on the reporter’s interpreting for the pilot program of TPP’s hospital information system software. This project is a liaison interpreting project whose aim is to facilitate the communication between TPP, the hospital information development company, and two community hospitals in Nanjing to conduct software development pilot program. The reporter encountered serious difficulties in this project which fell into three categories, namely, heavy preparation tasks, inter-disciplinary background, and difficult collaboration between interpreters. These obstacles affected the quality of interpretation and caused difficulties in target language understanding.With practical examples, the reporter analyzed the three problems. Based on her experience and research, she discussed and put forward three solutions, namely maintaining the interpreter’s relationship with the employer and the speaker, recognizing different roles of the interpreter, and managing terminology and knowledge. With the difficulties found earlier in this project, the reporter made predictions and preparations about possible problems that might appear late in the project; as a result, she achieved major improvements in interpretation later. The lessons learned and solutions drawn in the project will provide MTI students and interpreting learners with practical reference to deal with liaison interpreting in the future.
