In the 1980s, another climax of western literary translation was reached in China. During this period, most works of Marquez, a great master of Latin American literature, were translated into China. Marquez’s works influence Chinese readers. Meanwhile, they are also of profound significance to the literary creation of the contemporary Chinese writers.Mo Yan is one of the contemporary writers mostly influenced by Marquez. Within a long time, Mo Yan was described as "China’s Gabriel Marquez". Marquez’s influence on Mo Yan is not only reflected in writing skills, but also in thoughts, which can be seen in Mo Yan’s works. However, the influence is limited. Based on these, the thesis aims to discuss Marquez’s influence on Mo Yan’s novel creation, its limit, and its enlightenment to contemporary writers.The thesis consists of three parts. The introduction part mainly generalizes the current research status, explores and analyses the possible problems and disadvantages existing in these current researches. Meanwhile, this part also makes a general description of the research thought. The body part is divided into three chapters:the first chapter mainly introduces the translation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s works in China and Mo Yan’s reading Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s works; The second chapter discusses Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s influence on Mo Yan from four aspects:the characterization, the narrative techniques, the novel concept and the creation of "Literary Kingdom"; The third chapter mainly discusses Mo Yan’s resistance against the influence from Gabriel Garcia Marquez after realizing it, the limit of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s influence on Mo Yan’s novel creation. The conclusion part mainly summarizes the whole thesis and explores the prospect of further research.
