This paper consists of two parts. The first part is the Chinese translation of Chapter8, Chapter9and Chapter15from Write like the Masters by William Cane, which introduces the writing techniques of21great writers. Chapter8"Write like Edgar Rice Burroughs" mainly introduces the writing skills we can learn from Edgar Rice Burroughs, Chapter9"Write like Franz Kafka" examines the writing techniques of Franz Kafka, and Chapter15"Write like Ian Fleming" introduces the art of writing of Ian Fleming.The second part is a commentary about the translation. The author of the paper applies Nida’s equivalence theory to analyzing the problems in translation and discusses the strategies used to achieve equivalence at the lexical and syntactic levels. Translation strategies discussed include meaning extension, omission and addition, reconstruction, and so on.The author of the paper hopes that the translation can arouse Chinese readers’ interest in Edgar Rice Burroughs, Franz Kafak and Ian Fleming that the translation strategies discussed can be of some help to future translation of similar kind.
