As one of the antique manifestations of art, mural has been developing along with thedevelopment of human civilization, and the artistic appeal as well as the enlightenment topeople’s minds it produces can hardly be found in other art languages. More and morevariations have been happening to its genre, technique and material owing to the progress ofscience and technology and to the blooming of lifestyles. Contemporary mural not onlyinherits the compositional patterns and material applications of traditional murals, but alsointegrates the scientific and technological achievements of the times. The application of newmaterials and techniques on a large scale makes it possible for mural to fit into more spaces ofdifferent functions, resulting in a closer relationship between mural and our daily life and inan increase of its audience. Once a kind of artwork exclusive to the powerful and the wealthy,it has now grown into one of the public space arts in modern urban cities, so as to better alignwith the popularized creation and aesthetic tastes.Starting with the status quo of contemporary mural art, this thesis mainly explores theapplication of new materials and the forms of application language as well as the applicationfeatures in contemporary mural. By fully analyzing the achievements both in science-technology and urban development and in mural creations, the thesis also tries to illustrate thedepth and breadth of new mural materials in application with representative works, and thelanguage and use of contemporary mural’s new material will bring a wider diversity and morefreedom to the future of contemporary mural. |
