This report is based on the author’s translation practice of a travel guidebook,Jamaica, which was co-published by Lonely Planet and Sinomaps Press. A greatnumber of proper names are involved in this book and tackling the translation of theseproper names is the major concern. As for dealing with the translation of these propernames, the translator, together with the translation group members, firstly sorted outand pre-translated proper names in Word and then imported the whole Word file ofproper names into the new term base in memoQ. All the translation work of Jamaicawas finished in memoQ. The specific project workflow of this translation practiceconsists of5stages, namely, preparation stage, stage of creating a new project,translation stage, quality inspection stage and exporting stage. Specifically, withregard to the translation of proper names in Jamaica, this report is mainly involvedwith seven translation strategies, namely, transliteration, explanation, bothtransliteration and explanation, annotation, zero translation, shape-related symboltranslation and convention. All these translation strategies are adopted for contributingto the accuracy and fluency of the translated text.
