Abstract:Chinese and Vietnamese Buddhist idioms are both the essence of language, and the gem of Buddhist wisdom. In the long course of development of mankind, the Buddhist language and culture had a profound impact on mankind. Because of its rich cultural connotation, Buddhist idioms are widely used in the daily life of Chinese and Vietnamese, making great conribution to the development of ethnic culture of the two countries. Vietnamese Buddhism not only gets influence from Indian Buddhism, but also Chinese Buddhism. What’s more, Chinese Buddhism affects Vietnam most, which is bound to leave a clear mark on Chinese and Vietnamese language vocabulary system.This paper collects and arranges Chinese and Vietnamese Buddhist idioms materials, elaborating the sources of Chinese and Vietnamese Buddhism Idioms, and making comparative studies in the number of syllables, lexical structure, semantic structure and ecological environment etc. On the whole, Chinese and Vietnamese Buddhism idioms have more commons than differences, which also reflects the historical influence of Chinese Buddhism on Vietnamese Buddhism from another side.
