| With the development of education and progress of translation, the status of children’s literature in translation has increased, but it still remains in a marginal position. In recent decades, the amount of translation of children’s literature has risen sharply. However, there are still a lot of problems in the translation of children’s literature, such as low quality, high repetition rate, etc. Children, the future and hope of a nation, need serious attention from every scholar. Especially now a large number of foreign children’s literature has been introduced, the quality of translated works is crucial to every child.This article analyzes the Chinese translation of Why the Chimes Rang and Other Stories based on Toury’s Norm theory. The author has done the preparation of translation based on the preliminary norms. Moreover, the author analyzes typical examples according to initial norms and operational norms. At the same time, the author treats different examples with different ways in consideration of characteristics of children’s literature, acceptability of children and children’s education.This paper is divided into five parts. The first part introduces the research background and the purpose and significance of the study. The second part gives a brief introduction of the book and the notion and the characteristics of children’s literature. The third part introduces Toury’s Norm theory in detail. The fourth part makes a comparative analysis of the source and target texts by combining the theory and translation practice. The fifth part draws a conclusion, summarizing and highlighting the major insights obtained from the present study. |
