Error analysis is a widely accepted analytical tool in the study of second language acquisition (SLA). During the systematic stage of SLA, errors frequently occur because learners have not fully acquired the target language. This type of error cannot be self-corrected and requires teacher’s constant correction. During the post-systematic stage, learners have practically internalized the target language. Errors will still occur because learners are not able to use the linguistic rules proficiently. If given a hint, learners will realize the errors and correct them.Based on the error analysis theory, this paper studies the errors made by Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) majors in informative text translations. Subjects are MTI majors who have selected Chinese to English Translation course in the academic year2013-2014at Beijing Foreign Studies University. This research randomly selected ten students’translations, and analyzed the types and frequency of errors. This research aims at providing feasible suggestions for MTI translation teaching.This paper is composed of five chapters. The first chapter introduces the theoretical background. It defines and classifies errors, and reviews the studies on errors in SLA. Chapter two introduces the research design, including research questions and the research procedure. Chapter three describes ten types of errors that occurred in the selected translations. Chapter four diagnoses the reasons for these errors. The conclusion provides pedagogical implications for translation teaching.
