The Study On Euphemism Of The Scholars

As an outstanding critical realism classic,"The Scholars" don’t uses the performance practices of traditional Chinese classical novels, but evaluate the language of the characters instead of the characters selves. It is representative and typical significance to study the euphemism of "The Scholars". There are many kinds of diffident euphemisms in this book. They play an important role in aspects of "The scholars" language features. Combined with previous studies on the "Scholars" euphemism, the paper conducts a more systematic quantification sorting and distinguishes those euphemisms through semantic and vocabulary so on. Meanwhile, this paper discusses the unique and artistic features of "The Scholars" language to enrich the study of "The scholars" language and Chinese euphemism.This paper identifies the concept of euphemism, select the four euphemized subjects as the classification. According to the number and correlation between the euphemisms of "The Scholars", this paper broadly divides the euphemisms into the following four categories: euphemisms associated with death and disease; title-related euphemism; euphemism associated with money and love; the other euphemisms. Due to the other euphemisms appear less; the paper integrated them in a class, including euphemisms associated with marriage, dress, physiological changes and phenomena, crime and bad things. We get a more detailed understanding about "The Scholars" euphemisms through semantic analysis based on ontology. Then the paper discusses "The Scholars" euphemism features:tactful in with irony, clever use of dialects, and subtle proper use of allusions reveals the author’s evaluation. Finally, combined with previous research and the kinds and language features of "The Scholars" euphemism, they constitute the three principles compliance with relevant, polite, distance. And the paper talks about the means of euphemism composition from four diffident aspects. The four aspects contain pronunciation, vocabulary semantics, grammar, rhetoric.The study of the euphemism deepens the understanding of the work, and provides important data for further research of "The Scholars" language and enriches the research on Chinese euphemism.
