With great interestsin this phenomenon, the author, using relevant theoretical knowledge,launches an investigation into Hunchun’s language situation from aprofessional perspective.The study, taking the language used by residents living in theHunchun speech community as the object, in ways like questionnaires,mainly investigates the popularization of Mandarin in Hunchun, describesthe details of the general conditions of the language use and languageattitudes, as well as researches the language situations and the variables inthe speech community like age, sex, occupation, cultural background, theonly selection of language and the language identity.First of all, when studying the overall language used by residents inHunchun speech community, the paper inspects the tendency and abilityof language usage of the residents in different social situations, especiallythe various level of usage of Mandarin in local speech community.Besides, the paper analyzes the specific relevancy between the languageusage and the common variables like ethnicity, age, occupation, educational background, as well as their influencing factors.Secondly, the paper also involves the tendency of the languageattitudes of residents in Hunchun speech community, which includes theirlearning attitudes, their comparisons and comments on different languages,such as their mother language, Mandarin, Korean and Russian.At last, based on the former researches, the paper, with the analysisof relevant data, draws a conclusion, initiates relevant thinking and makescorresponding recommendations.
