Writing is one of the basic skills that a language learner must acquire during his study process. Most of the students of the college, including the English majors and the non-English majors have to learn English. And writing is an important part in many levels of English proficiency tests. But EFL learners are weak in this area, which causes great concern among teachers and researchers. In college, Writing is a challenge for most students in examinations, especially for non-English majors. To change the present situation, the author tries to introduce discourse analysis combined with memorizing strategy into non-English majors’ teaching.The present situation of college English teaching, especially of non-English major, teachers and students mainly follow the traditional procedure, including preparation before class, taking notes in class and doing review after class. Teacher always explained the essays from a grammatical viewpoint, neglecting to make the discourse analysis and understanding of the whole passage, which directly lead in students’ lacking the ability to understand the whole one, so the writing become a weak point for the learners. And the students can’t understand the passage as a whole or to cognize from the perspective of macro. Thus, influence the thought of writing. At the same time, the language recitation input and output in writing are neglected. For non-English major students, recitation is a quick and effective method. But the process is dull even painful, and it’s time consuming, so this method is easy to be given up. In this experiment, the author tries his best to help students improve the ability of self-control on reciting. Students lack large amount of language input, so in the thesis the author makes every effort to help them improve the self-control on recitation. Different from those previous studies, this thesis impart the discourse knowledge prior to the model essay recitation. This paper combined discourse analysis with text recitation, and discusses its influence on non-English major students’ English writing. The objects of this research is two classes of sophomore in College of Biological Sciences of Northwest University for Nationalities, non-English majors. In order to discover their performance and problem when using this kind of learning strategies, and discover the characteristics of their problem to provide some significant implications for the teaching and learning of these items. In the study, compositions were written on four topics by60subjects who are biological college non-English majors in2011Grade of Northwest University for Nationalities. This study used English software SPSS16.0to analyze data in their questionnaire and their composition. The result shows the learners in the experiment group makes greater progress both in model essay recitation and writing than those in control group. This uncovers that imparting discourse knowledge prior to mode essay recitation helps to better recitation and advances English writing to a certain degree. Interviews are also used, whose findings are confirmed once again the mentioned results.The thesis is composed of five chapters:Chapter One is about the current situation of teaching and learning of the college English writing of the non-English majors.Chapter Two introduces relevant study on the topic overseas and at home.Chapter Three is some relevant theories, including optimal input hypothesis and second language learning, nature of writing, theory about memory, language chunk, behavioral theories on second language learning and so on.Chapter Four is the experiment, and introduces the whole procedure of the research. It contains the research questions, subjects of the research, and data collection.Chapter Five summarizes the result of the study and the limitation of the research.Chapter Six is Conclusion, which states the major findings, pedagogical implications, limitations and recommendation for future research.In practice and theory, this study might offer some insights into English writing. For future research, the writer hopes this research might provide some reference. In the process of this research, as the time is limited and there are some other factors that are uncontrollable, there will be still a lot to be perfected...
