A Battle of Wits was showed in2006. It tells the story of a mohist GeLi guarding acity. The film expresses the director’s understanding and thinking of the Mohism.The film also led to a new wave of research about Mohism. And what’s more, it wasregarded as a new representative of the Asian Co-production. It has the deep politicaland cultural significance. In this article, A Battle of Wits was regarded as a studyobject. Interpreting the thematic connotation and aesthetic traits that embodied in thisfilm. Then finding the film’s cultural significance in the context of culturaltransmission.The article consists of three chapters.The first chapter mainly studies the theme of A Battle of Wits. Focusing theuniversal love, pacifism, talent worship, anti-fatalism and frugality that showed in thefilm. And also, discussing the director’s interpretation and construction of theMohism in the film.The second chapter studies the art expression of the film. As a war film ofhistorical theme, A Battle of Wits embodies the violence aesthetics, the theory ofartistic conception, tragedy aesthetics. These three aesthetic theories enhance theartistic connotation of this film.The third chapter is the cultural dissemination study of A Battle of Wits. Trying toknow how this block buster’s positioning forms its social influence by obey theprinciples of genre films. And how it spreads the Mohism. At the same time, theAsian Co-production’s choose of Mohism is very valuable to China and other Asiancountries.Through the form of contemporary film, A Battle of Wits showed the old Mohismby various aesthetic theories. This form expressed its returning and choosing of thetraditional culture. To some degrees, it is the construction of the China and the wholeAsia. And this is meaningful.
