On The Image Of Ideal King In The Bible

The Bible is a religious classic, a historical encyclopedia and a literarymasterpiece. Colorful characters have been modeled in Bible: God, Adam, Eve, Satan,Moses, Saul, David and so on. This paper analyzes the image of ideal king in theBible from the literary perspective. Among various kings, the author mainly takesSaul, David and Solomon as examples to analyze the image of ideal king in the Bible.The author analyzes the necessary qualities of the image of ideal king in theBible from the literary perspective on the basis of a careful reading of the Bible. Thispaper can be divided into three chapters.The first chapter explores the essential faithfulness and obedience to God of theimage of ideal king in the Bible. It is analyzed from three aspects: Firstly, the authordiscusses the king’s faithfulness to God through King David’s stories; Secondly, thepaper discusses the subordination of kings. Thirdly, the writer analyzes the king’s nottransgressing God’s Commandments and Laws.The second chapter mainly focuses on the required unusual appearance andsuperb qualities of the image of ideal king in the Bible with the techniques ofcharacterization in narratology: showing and telling.The third chapter analyzes the needed outstanding wisdom and capacity of theimage of ideal king in the Bible. In this chapter, the author attempts to analyze kings’military, political, literary and judicial achievements and then sum up the neededoutstanding wisdom and capacity of the image of ideal king in the Bible.Through the analyses of the three chapters, we come to the conclusion: the imageof ideal king in the Bible should be faithful and obedient to God, possess unusualappearance and superb qualities and have outstanding wisdom and capacity. Theresearch I did on the image of ideal king in the Bible will help the domestic scholarsunderstand the image of the king in the Bible and the characteristics of the Bible.
