Combination of light and shadow achieves the art of film. As one of the sevenarts, film, in its hundred-year development process, is both a kind of art and mediumof communication. As a unique media, film usually makes a particular kind of stars bymeans of its characters during the communication process.With the change process of film industrialization, its frequency of making stars isalso on the rise, which makes the medium of film could quickly draw the specificFans’ attention. Therefore, the participation of Stars into a film actually promotes theincrease in box office sales paid by fans—this medium of film is what it makes a starin this sense, or vice versa. No matter what is cause or effect between the two sides,star and film are connected by Fans for the purpose of achieving mutual benefit in theend.In2011, several typical Fans Film such as Far Cry, My Kingdom, Mayday DNAand The Purple House etc were released and earned2011the title of “The first year ofbox office sales paid by fans” in the eyes of some insiders. With the crazy young fansbrought by dazzling star effects and a great deal of discussed keywords, these FansFilm released and instantly attracted the media, insiders and relevant academicresearchers’ attention after releasing. From the economic perspective, the fansaudience of such films has strong box office productivity, which arouses concerns ofinsiders, market and many other people.In Fans Film tide, Tiny Times—a series of films adapted by literature forparticular fans created the myth of box office and highlighted the great consumptionpower of fans film audience and consumption behavior of fans.This paper selects Tiny Times—a film work adapted by a best-selling novel—asstudy case film, because the texts of the series of films are beneficial to broad fansaudience, which guarantees the amount of repeat viewing for attendance, and the boxoffice of this film was constantly refreshed. Meanwhile, the audience will watch thefilm for many times to express their support to idol, and fans will buy various kinds ofpublished version of Tiny Times during the movie releasing, which caused another hotsell in books; for the invisible consumption, audience takes up occupy a lot of spaceresources on the micro blog and other media. They released relevant information about the film Tiny Times, making it a hot topic and being consumed by morecommon audience, it also consumed the audiences’ attention.Tiny Times1released and constantly occupied a large percentage of box officesince June27,2013, and launched a white-hot debate inside and outside the industry.Soon after, Tiny Times2followed on August8of the same year in advance, and alsobecame a smash hit in box office. People’s attention was fixed on Fans Film whichwas tailored for specific groups once again.We media, including film box office inside and outside of the big screen, theaterproduction, online film downloads, text-related merchandise, topics list of micro blogand micro blog etc occupies a large number of information space, even fans willprovoke network wars in order to maintain their idols. When news report meets fansfilm, various hot topics turn from film itself to warm and slightly crazy consumptionbehavior of fans. From advance publicity to final show, fans audience is both leadingrole of hot news in the whole process and important supporting role in film issuers’marketing plan and “making money” behavior of box office.Under this circumstance, a large number of film and television works choose tocreate “tailor-made for particular fans”. It is an expedient for investors and issuers tomake film close to “industrial production” in the film community, and is also a realitythat Fans Film accounts for half of total films due to all kinds of fans and their strongconsumption power.The market is always one of main criteria for judging the success of filmmakingunder the background of the consumption society. For one of the filmclassification—fans movie, in addition to the content of works, entertainment topicscomposed of stardom and considerable box office with less investment makeincreasing film investors and filmmakers to move to this type of films, even somenon-film industry celebrities began to try professional film shooting with their ownstar power under the escort of popularity. For the moment, among the numerouscelebrities who moved to film shooting from other industries, Tiny Times of GuoJingming undoubtedly got the best hand with the card of “fans film” by nowCombining with the relevant researches on communication, audience researchplays an important role in many categories of communication, especially in theenvironment of the rapid development of new media. The dynamic roles of audienceon the aspects of media, messages etc. has become one of the important items ofaudience research.Since Tiny Times, numerous fans film which was tailored for specific audiencegroups are equipped with eye-catching entertainment topics and stardom, and each show would take up half of total films. However, within the context of fans film, it isvery different in the final box office results and reputation effects of various works.Differences of specific audience groups’ choice and consumption of fans film directlyaffect the ultimate visual performance of film—one of the important reasons for thebox office. The consumption behavior of fans audience is also one essential elementconcerning the development and advancing space of this type of film.After research, this paper selects typical work of Fans Film—Tiny Timesseries—as the carrier and analyses the significant consumption behavior of fans,causes of anti-normalization consumption behavior and impact on film marketthrough the hot Fans Film, and attempts to provide some references for thedevelopment trend and positioning of Chinese film market.
