With the increasing influence of China in the world stage, mandarin, as its representative language, has gained more attention from the learners overseas. The thesis explores the way of how to realize the optimal combination between test and teaching under oversea circumstances so as to reach the target of promoting learning and teaching through exams. Under the guidance of communicative competence, listening comprehension requires us to reset its role, not a passive processing but a positive one. Therefore, considering of its positive role, mandarin teachers should band together the traditional teaching and communicative approach, and help learners to lay a steady foundation in field of language input. The efficiency of listening teaching relies on the integrative action of phonetics, glossary, grammar and cultural teaching——phonetics teaching for distinguishing sound and intonation; glossary for constructing the combination of pronunciation, form and meaning; grammar for developing predicting capability and culture for structuring schemata of background knowledge. Based on the idea of test-teaching combination, teacher should integrate HSK syllabus of elementary listening into the course after a deep survey of it. The thesis explores from the practical strategy of test-teaching combination with the hope of making due contribution to the promotion of mandarin overseas.
