This thesis is a practice report on the translation of Governing the World, mainly discussing the translation process research and case studies related to the book translation and the translator’s translation theory and skills. The book is written by Mark Mazower, a teacher in Columbia University. It is indeed a remarkable achievement, a work of the epic story of that inevitable tension—the unstable and often surprising alchemy between ideas and power. The report mainly includes translation task description, translation process, case studies and translation experience. In the first part, the description of the translation project, the translation process and the translators involved in the translation are discussed. Translation of the book undergoes translations preparation, translation rough draft, proofreading, polishing and the finalization of the translation. In the second part the above issues are discussed in details. In part three, the author pick up some representative examples in the process of translation that is also the focus of the translation, and related translation theory and translation skills will be discussed. Part Four contains the valuable experience and the summary of the translation, which brings the author an enhanced awareness of translator literacy. Finally, through this practice, the author feels ashamed for the shallow knowledge. From theoretical knowledge to language selection, there are still a lot of problems and shortcomings, which certainly give the author much knowledge and experience, to say the least. In this report the author just would like to share the translation process, a glimpse of hope in the dark mist of translation.
